Below are some specialized courses that can help you become a design engineer: 1- Piping Design Engineering This is one of the most popular design profiles for mechanical engineers. In this role, you’ll: • Do sizing and calculations for fittings like elbows, tees, reducers, flanges, valves, gaskets, etc. • Prepare datasheets for procurement teams. • Develop plot plans, pipe supports, and routing layouts. • Use software like AutoCAD, Plant 3D, E3D, and SP3D to model the plant. • Extract deliverables like isometrics, piping GA, equipment layout, support details, and MTO (Material Take-Off). 2- Static Equipment Design This profile deals with equipment that doesn’t move, such as: • Storage Tanks • Heat Exchangers • Pressure Vessels You’ll be responsible for sizing, calculations, simulations, and generating technical reports.
